A Message From the President
As "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" at A. Williams Construction, along with my master chefs, we have cooked up quite a unique stew known as A. Williams Construction.
In the beginning, some 30 years ago, there were just 2 cooks, Dolly and Carl Williams and just a few pots and pans and utensils. There was hardly any money for fuel, so we used a wood-burning stove to heat our office and keep warm. And the kitchen was very small. Ingredients were scarce, so we developed a unique dish just like our forefathers and mothers did a century ago as farmers and traders in another country.
It is amazing how time flies when you are having fun, but it flies even faster when you put hard work and building a family business in the mix.
I love being a contractor almost more than partying. My family and I love working at A. Williams Construction. After all, this has gotten us everywhere, experiencing the wonderful, the woeful, everything in between and eventually stumbling upon the American Dream.
How do you go from a 1952 dump truck and a rented garage just big enough to fit the truck in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Brooklyn to becoming one of the most recognized contractors in New York City?
How do you achieve this goal in an unlevel playing field where major challenges outnumber your meals every day?
How do you try to level the playing field when you are perceived to be ignorant of the genuine skills and talents you possess?
How do you get out of the valley and on to the mountaintop?
It has not been easy. On many, many days, it was no fun at all.
But, we at A. Williams Construction did what would be impossible for most. My family and employees are the best and my life is dedicated to the cause of A. Williams Construction and providing opportunities for them, so they can realize their potential.
Thirty years have gone by, and the second generation has moved in.
My goal is to cultivate the third, and we all look forward to serving you and this great city. My sincerest thanks and gratitude to all those who have helped us along the way. We appreciate your kindness, and we look forward to many more successful projects together.
